CRAB HUNT
A downloadable game for Windows and Linux
CRAB HUNT
Help little Craby collect mushrooms and bring them back to your cave to feed his empty belly... but be aware of the evil seagull.
Collect mushrooms all around the map and bring them back to Craby’s cave. The seagull is patrolling the area; if it spots you within its sight (the blue spot area), it will start following you, and if you remain in its sight for a few seconds, it will instantly zap you with its laser beam mwah mwah mwah...!

PRESENTATION
This prototype was made in two weeks during Pinuwuk's Lil Guy Game Jam: Beach Episode. Since the theme was both Beach and Lil Guy, it was hard for me to find a character and gameplay that would fit, especially considering my skill level in character creation (I had never created a 3D character before). After some reflection, I created Craby with his big head and small body... which caused me some trouble later during development.
My main objective for this game jam was to learn how to create, texture, rig, skin, animate, and integrate a 3D character. I spent half of the jam learning Blender, creating Craby, and trying to get him working inside UE5. No AI content or prompts were used during the whole creation, and here it is...
I'm super proud to have learned Blender and character creation in such a short time. I took a shortcut using Mixamo auto‑rigging (because mine wasn’t working correctly). The seagull AI behavior was a nightmare... yeah, having a flying AI patrol is not a good idea for a game jam because Unreal’s tools aren’t built for it. At first, the seagull was supposed to chase the player, but it turned out to be really hard to manage collisions with the environment, and that’s when I got the idea of the laser beam. My walking animation is very clunky, the seagull can still get stuck in the environment while following the player, and I’m not even fully convinced by the game loop and the objective of the game. But my main objective was character creation, and I can say that this part is accomplished.
If you have any constructive comments (ideas, improvements for this prototype) I would be glad to read them!
